16 accredited ASTM test methods for rail vehicle products in the U.S. and Canadian markets

Anyone wishing to export rail vehicle products to the North American market or place them on the market there must comply with applicable laws and regulations. These differ, in some cases significantly, from European requirements. We support you in having your products tested in accordance with standards and thus preparing for market access.

16 ASTM test methods – DAkkS-accredited

Our fire testing laboratory is accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) for 16 ASTM test methods. These include, among others:

  • ASTM E162 – Determination of Flame Spread on Surfaces
  • ASTM E662 – Determination of the Specific Optical Density of Smoke
  • and many other methods for various materials and component groups

We are happy to provide you with a complete overview of the test methods we offer upon request, or you can find them in our DAkkS accreditation certificate.

NFPA 130: The American equivalent of EN 45545

Tests are conducted in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 130, “Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems.” This standard is the American equivalent of the European rail vehicle standard EN 45545 and governs the fire safety requirements for passenger rail vehicles in North America.

What is the NFPA?

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a U.S. organization headquartered in Massachusetts. It publishes more than 300 consensus codes and standards aimed at minimizing the occurrence and impact of fires and other hazards. NFPA standards are widely used in the U.S. and Canada and are relied upon by many regulatory agencies, insurance companies, and clients as a binding basis.

Your advantage: A single point of contact for EN 45545 und NFPA 130

If you wish to qualify your rail vehicle products for both the European and North American markets, we can handle testing according to both standards under one roof. This saves time, simplifies coordination, and gives you a clear overview of your test results.
